Shakespeare: Macbeth |
Shakespeare prepared \'Macbeth\' for performance before James 1st. knowing of James\'s hatred of witchcraft. So the Bard gives him a glorious dose of what James loved to hate, while demonstrating that belief in witches has a triple-edged return.
Macbeth\'s descent into evil after his first murder follows the beautiful course of the natural law: you become what you do. With the black of night pervading the play until the last scene, the only other colour is that of blood. This is a black and red play, powered always by the number three: and has, probably, incantations supplied by Doctor Dee. Find out what it is that makes this Shakespeare\'s most performed and, by actors, most respected tragedy. |
