Robert Burns - The Life and Art |
Libelled a womaniser in the 19th Century, Robert Burns is the stuff of legend! On the 25th January each year celebrations of his birth in 1759 are held all over the world. Dead of heart disease at 37, he single-handedly restored a fading Scottish folk tradition and wrote some of the most beautiful poems in the language. He was the best read man in his own country’s literature. Over 10,000 people attended his funeral in Dumfries. No one respects a drunken womaniser, so in this lecture I hope to explore the truth about this best loved of men and poets. |
